Derby Dinner Playhouse
Clarksville, IN. -- September 10, 2008

The YAH group went to Clarksville, IN, in September 10 to the Derby Dinner Playhouse. The play for the day was the hilarious but serious gospel musical, "Smoke on the Mountain Reunion."

The music was great, the message was good, the actors were great also and the food----it was scrumptious!!!! We all enjoyed the antics of Rev Oglethorpe and the Sanders Family Singers and all the audience could be observed tapping their toes and singing along with all the old-time gospel hymns that were so familiar to our youth.

We also observed some huge desserts enjoyed by the YAH group.

Young at Heart traveled to historic Glendale on August 12th to lunch at the famed Whistle Stop Restaurant. The food was true to its reputation and was enjoyed by all from the fried green tomatoes to the luscious entrees and vegetables and salads. And the desserts were simply fabulous with many favorites consumed such as Ice cream fudge cake, mile high coconut pie and so on.

Afterwards, we walked the lunch off at Hodgenville at the Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Park, a beautiful site and deserving memorial to our 16th president and perhaps one of our greatest presidents. It was an enlightening visit for all of us. Thus the day was enjoyable as we returned passing by the boyhood home of Lincoln at New Haven. We also passed by the site of an earlier YAH visit to the Trappist Abbey of Gethsemane in Nelson County.

Morehead, June 10, 2008

On June 10, 2008, the Young At Heart journeyed to Morehead on the new Macedonia Church bus to tour the Kentucky Folk Art Museum.  This was a wonderful exhibit in an old food warehouse that had been converted for use as a museum.  Attendees marveled at both the skill and imagination of the featured artists. After a great tour, the group then proceeded to Root-A-Bakers Restaurant and Bakery for a delicious lunch served by the owner, Lana Root.  All enjoyed the tasty treats that were so splendidly displayed on our plates. After the main lunch, we then feasted on scrumptious desserts that Lana had baked just for our visit, Peanut Butter Pie, Coconut Cream and Strawberry Cake. All agreed that this was one of our best trips!!!

IN OUR OWN FAMILY LIFE CENTER

Young at Heart recently enjoyed their annual Valentine's Day Luncheon at Macedonia on February 20.  It had been scheduled for Feb 12, but the snow and ice caused a postponement.  The group savored a delicious dinner catered by a restaurant in Winchester with delectable desserts prepared by Young at Heart pastry chefs, Betty and Barbara. The Family Life Center was decorated in beautiful reds and whites, with white tablecloths adorned with red centerpieces especially made by Betty. After the dinner, the group was entertained by a troupe from Winchester's Central Baptist Church called Live Longer and Like It

YOUNG AT HEART ANNUAL VALENTINE’S LUNCHEON

Young at Heart had their annual Valentine’s Luncheon on February 13 in the Fellowship Hall. As has been the custom for the last 3 years, the Young at Heart Band, a group of local senior citizen musicians having the same name as the Macedonia seniors group, performed at the luncheon.

There were some 28 band members and guests attending while the Macedonia YAH attendees numbered 42.  The lunch was catered by the Cantuckee Diner in Winchester with the pies being made by caterer Brenda Turner of Winchester.

All present enjoyed the scrumptious lunch of chicken & dumplings, fried chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans, corn pudding and cole slaw along with Betty Wilmore’s delicious banana pudding and Brenda’s renowned chocolate, butterscotch and coconut cream pies. Afterwards, all toe-tapped and chair-bounced while some were even able to overcome creaky joints to dance along to the band’s renditions of Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey, Count Basie and Duke Ellington favorites.

A wonderful relaxing afternoon of food, fun music and fellowship was spent by all the attendees.
