The YAH group ventured to Blue Licks State Resort Park for  delicious and bountiful lunch on March 10. After the lunch, the group toured the park and noted the historical landmarks and monuments erected there to commemorate the Battle of Blue Licks, one of the last battles of the Revolutionary War, actually fought after the surrender of the British at Yorktown.

Some 300 Shawnees led by the British overwhelmed the group of Kentucky Militiamen led by Daniel Boone and others. We learned that Boone's son Isaiah was one of those killed at Blue Licks. Afterward, the group then traveled on to Elizaville to a historical and very large cemetery to visit the grave and monument of Kentucky's World War II hero, Franklin Sousley. Pfc Sousley was one of the soldiers photographed in the famous photo by journalist Joe Rosenthal that is etched in everyone's mind as the most famous photo of World War II at the Battle of Iwo Jima.

Terry gave the members a historical view of the flag-raising and all the events surrounding the battle. It was also noted that another war hero, World War I soldier Ambers Sapp is also buried at the cemetery and a marker is erected at the roadside by the cemetery. There are many other military members buried there including both Union and Confederate soldiers from the Civil War.

We then traveled on to Goddard and walked across the covered bridge there and made photos of the bridge with the Goddard United Methodist Church framed in the background. We then returned to Macedonia.
